| There will be plenty of ways to do that tonight, as we close the book on 2006 (including the BIG party in Times Square in NYC and the ball drop). So remember, if you've had a little too much partying (aka Drinking), pass the keys! I'd like to hear from some of you again in the New Year, and the last thing I want is for someone's life to end at the hands of a drunken driver. And speaking of the New Year, I'd like to give you a little treat to endure on the final hours of 2006 (from me to you, I wish you a very, very, very, very, very, very, very Happy 2007): Happy New Year (*=Chorus) Abba/A-Teens**
No more champagne And the fireworks are through Here we are, me and you Feeling lost and feeling blue It's the end of the party And the morning seems so grey So unlike yesterday Now's the time for us to say...
*Happy new year Happy new year May we all have a vision now and then Of a world where every neighbour is a friend Happy new year Happy new year May we all have our hopes, our will to try If we don't we might as well lay down and die You and I
Sometimes I see How the brave new world arrives And I see how it thrives In the ashes of our lives Oh yes, man is a fool And he thinks he'll be okay Dragging on, feet of clay Never knowing he's astray Keeps on going anyway... [*] Seems to me now That the dreams we had before Are all dead, nothing more Than confetti on the floor It's the end of a decade In another ten years time Who can say what we'll find What lies waiting down the line In the end of eighty-nine... [*] (**=On the A-Teens version, instead of "eighty-nine", they use "ninety-nine", as they sang their rendition on a Y2K special from Sweden, where the group is based. In addition, their ABBA Generation album came out in 1999) | | |
| That would be the correct response to "Alex would use this term to coin what Nancy Zerg would be if she were to defeat Ken Jennings." And I've given everyone about a week to figure it out, but nobody got it, so I'll give it to you as I speak. Once again, the category was BUSINESS & INDUSTRY. The clue: "Most of this firm's 70,000 seasonal white-collar employees work only 4 months a year." When all was said and done in FJ, Alex said, "Nancy, you wrote down your response rather quickly, I thought. I hope it's correct." Nancy just replied, "I hope so, too." Alex then says, "Let's take a look: 'What is H&R Block?' You're right. Your wager: $4,401; taking you up to $14,401; you have a one dollar lead over Ken Jennings right now. And his final Jeopardy response was...'What is FedEx?' (amidst gasps from all over the studio) His wager was...$5,601. He winds up in second place with $8,799; and Nancy Zerg, congratulations! You are indeed A GIANT-KILLER! OUR NEW JEOPARDY! CHAMPION WITH $14,401! Ken, take a look at the audience! The audience is paying tribute to not only Nancy, but to you as well. All good things have to come to an end, don't they? Well, too bad for Ken. But he's going home with a lot of money, $2.5 million. Congratulations, young man. Nancy will be back tomorrow to defend for the first time. We will see her, 2 new players, and you then. So long, everybody!" And thus closeth the book on the newest Jeopardy! legend, the best person to every play the game. I'm proud of him, and you should be, too. | | |
| Today, TWO years ago this month, Ken Jennings faced what would become his last appearance on the show. At the end of the month, he had fierce competition in David Hankins (a college student from Minneapolis, MN) and Nancy Zerg (a realtor from Ventura, CA). Jennings had just bumped his total to $2,520,700 at the end of the previous show (His 74th). At the end of Double Jeopardy on this, his 75th show; Jennings led $14,400 to Nancy's $10K. David, unfortunately, ended at $-2800; and thus was eliminated from Final Jeopardy. And speaking of Final Jeopardy, the category was BUSINESS & INDUSTRY. The clue: "Most of this firm's 70,000 seasonal white-collar employees work only 4 months a year." Alex: "30 seconds, good luck." (show's "think" music plays) While he gave them 30 seconds to come up with the correct question, I'm giving you guys plenty of time to come up with it yourself. Post your responses in the Comments thread below, and remember: You MUST phrase your response in the form of a question in order for it to count. With that being said, good luck! | | |
| The title of the blog and the emotion of it sum it up in one word: Thankful. Here are some of the things I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday: 1. Friends-Without them, I wouldn't be able to get advice from them on how to combat disrespect in real life as well as in cyber-life. 2. Food-Yes, glorious food. A beautiful turkey and ham, a green bean casserole with French-Fried onions on top, some mashed potatoes and gravy, and the pecan and pumpkin pies. 3. The Holidays themselves-This is the first of the holidays in the Holiday Season. Christmas is coming up, and I want to make sure that the people who haven't been nice to me do so now before it's too late. I want them to have some nice presents in their stockings and under their trees. 4. Family-We've had conflicts here and there, but all in all, we get along or at least try to. 5. Readers-People who've stopped by to check on what's been going on in my life. 6. The Pilgrims and Indians-Yes, we should be thankful for them, otherwise we would've had to hunt for food ourselves. But they did it for us. Nowadays, of course, we've got supermarkets, so all we have to do is buy it! 7. Football-Without it, people would have a pretty boring holiday. The Cowboys play tomorrow, and I'm thankful that they got Terrell Owens. This pretty much tells you what I'm thankful for. The day after we'll be thankful that some of us got our holiday shopping done early before the crowds. (Yes, Black Friday is a typical time of the year for shopping.) Other than that, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Season's Greetings to all. | | |
| Those 4 words say it all. Today is the day that we decide whether or not Republicans will hold onto Congress, or Democrats will take it back. It's been 12 years since the Republican Party (aka NOT the GOP) took the country back with its so-called "Contract With America", which said the country would be taken back from the special interests. Well, it seems that the contract is broken (and the people have spoken), because the special interests such as Big Oil and Big Insurance have taken a load of money. This means higher gas prices, and fewer settlements for those who've been hurt in car wrecks and bad drugs. Here's why I've been a Democrat since 2000: When Bush and Gore both ran for the Presidency, Bush, then TX Governor was applying capital punishment to both men AND women, when he was only supposed to use the death penalty for men and MEN ONLY (Meaning the women MUST be spared, because they're less violent and of course, they are WOMEN, so they MUST be spared.). But, little did I know that he was a Republican, and that Gore was a Democrat. So, since the last 2 elections of '02 and '04 (in which I did vote, as I didn't vote in 2000), I've voted Democrat. Other than that, and me urging you to vote Democrat, I am out! And tomorrow will mark 1 year since the Jeopardy! DVD came out. Find out more by clicking the link. | | |
